Network Downtime on December 16th

Primary Router change

The final migration of our network equipment to UIT’s hardware will happen on Tuesday, December 16th in the evening.  (The exact time has not been set yet.  Clarification will follow when it is set.)  This downtime will affect all traffic in the department as our old router is swapped out for the new.
The process itself should only take 15-30 minutes, but people should be prepared to have no networking during this period.

KSoC VPN Decommissioned

Additionally, this change involves the loss of our department VPN.  All VPN traffic will need to come through the campus VPN service.  The PaloAlto client used is no different than our current VPN, so existing client installs of GlobalProtect should work without having to change the software on your local system.  You will only need to switch your VPN connection to use “vpn.utah.edu” and login with your campus credentials, instead of your old KSoC credentials.  You can start using the campus VPN at any time, there is no need to wait until the router change.  If for any reason you are unable to reach a KSoC resource through the campus VPN connection, please contact us through https://support.cs.utah.edu/help and we will make what adjustments are needed to correct the situation.
