The University Board of Regents mandated all departments to switch all campus Email services to the central campus UMail system two years ago. Though we have had an exception to this migration for this period, our time to transfer Email to campus has come.
In order to avoid complications during classes, we are setting this time of transfer to the second week of May, in the break between the spring and summer semesters of 2024. Our target date is May 6th.
At this time, our system acting as the Message Transfer Agent (MTA) will be decommissioned and replaced with campus UMail. The UMail system will then handle all Email traffic destined for the cs.utah.edu domain.
This means that the current Email server for all <username>@cs.utah.edu accounts, will be shutdown and unavailable. For end users, this means that you will need to switch to UMail as your primary MTA and transfer any old Email that you wish to keep from the current KSoC server, to the campus system, anytime before May 6th, 2024.
The process of switching to UMail as your primary MTA is neither difficult or complicated, but depending on the amount of saved Email you wish to keep, the data transfer may take a bit of time.
Instructions on how to switch to the campus UMail system (including instructions on how to enable an alias for your <username>@cs.utah.edu email address) can be found here :
It is important to note that this process can be done at any time. There is no need to wait until the start of May to enact this process.
