IMAP Server will be Decommissioned on May 5th

Now that we are coming up on the one-year anniversary of our migration to UMail, it is time for the IMAP server in the Kahlert School of Computing, to be shutdown.  IMAP will be shutdown on Monday, May 5th.
This means that you will no longer be able to connect to our old email server using an IMAP client, such as Thunderbird, Mac Mail, or the like.  If you wish to transfer your old email to UMail, this will be your last opportunity to do so. Instructions on transferring your old email to UMail can be found here: https://support.cs.utah.edu/umail/
*** Transferring your old email to UMail is NOT a requirement! ***
All of your old CS email will still be available after the IMAP server is gone.  The actual data is stored in your home directory, under the ~/Maildir directory and will not be deleted or altered in any way.
The easiest way to access your old CS email after IMAP is gone, is to use the ‘mutt’ email client on shell.cs.utah.edu, or any other CS managed computer in the department.
Using an SSH client, connect to a CS machine (such as shell.cs.utah.edu) and once logged in, run:
    mutt -f ~/Maildir
The ‘mutt’ email client will have full access to all of your old email and is a very easy client to use. Since the structure of your email folders is stored in your Maildir directory, even the organizational work you have made in the past, will be intact.
If there are any concerns or questions about any of this change, please feel free to contact and we’ll help you through this transition.
