The software package we were using for webmail required frequent updates for security issues and it was a lengthy process to do such.  We have migrated to new software that is much easier to maintain yet provides similar functionality.  Please note that webmail is an unsupported service and we still recommend that users access their email via the IMAP service.

Mail Server Local Delivery Issues

Synopsis:

Mail was being held on the mail server and has been flushed as of 7am this morning.

Long Story:

The mail server's anti-virus process ran into memory issues both yesterday and this morning causing the mail server to queue up local delivery of mail.

The anti-virus daemon has been adjusted to load and to not auto-update until we can find a workaround for the ever-growing needs to deal with spam/viruses.

All mail that was queued up has been flushed.

Rebuilding the mail server is one of the projects on the short list, but we are still waiting for new hardware to come in to rebuild the machine.

We're sorry for any inconvenience any delay in delivering email may have caused you.

Per user requests, bless-www-only will now check to see if a directory is setgid and will maintain that bit after changing the group of the directory to www-only.  It has only been updated in the 8.04 Ubuntu trees which may be accessed via shell.cs.utah.edu.
